Backup Exec 12: Services "Backup Exec Sever" & "Backup Exec Agent Browser" can't start...

After an update of the Symantec Endpoint Client to version 12.1.6(12.1 RU6) I realized that the Backup Exec can not start the above mentioned services which are also co-dependant.

If your "Backup Exec Sever" service stays in STARTING status then please do below steps to repair your install and lose nothing of the configuration!

1. Open as admin a CMD window. Type
sc queryex BackupExecRPCService
<Enter>

Note the PID of this service and replace the word PID below with the number you got...

taskkill /f /pid PID
<Enter>

Your service should be stopped now.

2. Get your ISO or CD of BackupExec locally to the server where you have it installed.
Run the setup. Select repair! Let it finish and restart if asked.

Now start your BEXEC and confirm all services started.
If yes complete below steps.
Open services menu from BEXEC and change credentials to run all services under same admin account you had before! This way you ll know for certain you have no wrong credentials.

You ll notice that the only service not affected is"Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Systems"
which runs as Local System! Dont touch it! Its ok!

Now run live update to get your Backup Exec all the way up to latest service pack/patches! It will need couple times to get to SP4 and all patches. Restart and check all services running again!

* In case you had changed the location of your "catalogs", you need to point again to your location.
If you hadn't leave as is to default "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Catalogs"

To change: Menu>Tools>Options and click Catalog. Then restart services from the services manager.

You should be ready to go again!

NOTEs:
If you get unknown or offline media in some of your tapes.. do below:

If offline: click each one in your Media Menu>Offline and thenRight Click
"Assosocate Media with Media Set" and change to "Scratch Media"

Then go to Menu>Devices see your tape drive or robotic library and find the slot of your tape.
Right click and select IMPORT. Once all finished you should be ok to use the tape again.
