As my self and many more seem to have or had problems with this old B/W printer under their Citrix connections, here is the simplest solution to fix this...
I believe there are two scenarios:
A. Printer on printer server and shared in your active directory
B. Printer locally connected to your PC
Depending your scenario do below steps...
Go to you print server and right click to open the properties of your shared printer. Click the "Advanced" Tab and then click the New Driver button! Find HP and select the HP LaserJet 6L model!
Let it install automatically! You are done with the server side!
No go to the PC in trouble. Delete the old printer and Add a new printer (network in your case) and just follow the step to install. In case you've been asked to install the printer driver choose the Windows Update and get latest HP LaserJet 6L driver and make it your default. Finish the install.
Now connect to your citrix and you should see the new printer (if not make sure to log off and log on again).
Your HP 1020n should print fine your messages with no problem now!
For local PC just change the printer driver in Advanced tab!
